One of our most beloved items isn't Scottish at all, Butter Tarts originated in the early 20th century in Ontario. These tarts are made with two types of raisins, butter, brown sugar, and eggs. The sweet buttery filling is then placed into a 4 inch flaky tart shell (made with lard - vegetarians take note). Butter Tarts are great with a cup of tea or coffee. They're also fantastic warmed up and topped with vanilla ice cream.
